Have you ever wished that some of the famous video game characters from the past ages could make a comeback?
Good news! Sony is planning to revive some of the most loved PlayStation characters.? Old school Sony characters like?Spyro, Crash Bandicoot, and Jack and Daxter are on the list. Other characters might still be on queue, however, Sony is taking suggestions on which characters will have an HD comeback.
In an interview by the Telegraph with Sony Computer Entertainment President and group CEO, Andrew House:
“In concept, it is something we’ve been thinking about and discussing, and this is a shift for us,?
?We’ve started to say that maybe there isn’t anything wrong with going back and looking at characters that people still talk about, that were a big part of either their childhood or their youth. I definitely wouldn’t close the door on that.”
Even though Sony is pushing to revive some of the most loved characters of our childhood, they cannot do it alone. Different publishers own some characters? digital rights.
Take Crash Bandicoot as an example.
Sony cannot make a reboot or remake for this game because Activision has its digital rights. Even if Sony will try to ask Activision about this plan, it is hardly possible.
Activision has been guarding Crash Bandicoot and Spyro licence closely, that they did not even allow it to be part of a fan art display contest by Naughty Dog. Naughty Dog celebrates its 30th Anniversary by running a fan art design contest.?Crash Bandicoot was taken out of the list.
However, some characters like Jack and Daxter are still owned by Sony. Sony might try to get them to the spotlight first only with the exception of Playstation Move Heroes. The last development of the said game was back in 2009 and we have never heard about it again. If Sony can pull out a successful reboot, it would be easy for them to do it again with other characters.
