The Oculus Rift is not just for having full virtual reality experience for video games, it will also be offered to theaters for a full VR movie experience.
At an Oculus developer conference called Oculus Connect, the Oculus team have mentioned some of upcoming plans for their VR gear. Some of the announcements include the launch of the Software Development Kit version 1 this December, and the Oculus Touch controllers that will be available on 2nd Quarter next year which lets you control your VR experiences (the Xbox 360 controller is also compatible for the Oculus Rift).
But the most buzz on the Oculus Rift was the VR experience on movies and TV series, it was announced that Netflix will be supporting VR experience for their platform and was supposed to be available today, and some video apps such as Hulu, Twitch and Vimeo will be joining as well. This means you can experience VR on 2D movies at the comfort of your own home. Aside from the other video platforms, 20th Century Fox has also announced that they will be releasing more than 100 films that will be supported by Oculus Rift next year.
The said movies will be available on the Oculus VR Cinema App, and it will include films such as Alien, Birndman, Die Hard, Taken and many more. The Oculur VR Cinema was developed to provide users a full VR Cinema experience that let them be inside a movie theater, where you can actually walk around and seat at any particular seating area. It will also allow you to watch films in standard 2D or 3D, depending on the supported movie. The App will support AVI, MP4, MKV and WMV video format, Lionsgate will also be joining along Fox for VR Cinema, which films like the Hunger Games and Pulp Fiction.
