The 44th President of the United States praised awardees for the work that made them famous. He also praised DeGeneres, Hanks and Jordan, along with all the others, for their charitable and humanitarian endeavours.

President Barack Obama described Hanks as “America’s dad?. He said Hanks ?has always saved his best role for real life. He is a good man, which is the best title you can have.”
DeGeneres is widely known as a comedian who came out as gay on national television in 1997. It was a brave move as she seemed ready to risk her career with such a revelation. President Obama said he was getting “choked up? as he praised the comedian.
DeGeneres looked overwhelmed with emotion upon receiving the Medal of Honor from the President. Before the ceremony started, she reportedly had problems entering the gates of the White House because she forgot her ID. Alas, she was able to make it inside before the presentations got underway.
As for the sports category, Jordan was among the athletes that were awarded a Presidential Medal of Honor. Telegraph noted that he starred for the president?s beloved Chicago Bulls. President Obama said, “There is a reason you call somebody the Michael Jordan.?
Bruce Springsteen and Robert De Niro were also luminaries for their contribution to the nation. Architect Frank Gehry, computer scientist Margaret Hamilton, and sculpture and landscape artist Maya Lin were also recognized.
