NVIDIA has now dropped their Pascal Architecture GPUs into Laptops a few days ago. Take note, it?s not a mobile version.
What is Pascal Architecture?
Pascal is the latest generation of GPUs or Graphics Processing Unit, from NVIDIA. It quietly ?packs a punch and delivers a tremendous boost in performance, compared to Maxwell Architecture.
As of now, Pascal has the fastest GPUs in terms of computing and gaming performance. The Titan XP or Titan X Pascal from NVIDIA is the fastest graphics card as of today, followed by the GTX 1080.
GTX 1080 and Titan XP are the only ones with the GDDR5X, while the rest uses the traditional GDDR5
Memory Bus Width
Compared to NVIDIA?s transition to Maxwell Architecture from Kepler Architecture, Maxwell didn?t have much improvements and difference from Kepler. Maxwell only showed a few performance increase in terms of gaming, which most the consumers do.
Pascal to Laptops
NVIDIA has also brought their Pascal GPUs to laptops, and it wasn?t a mobile version. It now uses a full powered GPU capable of VR, which can also be found in desktop PCs.
It?s a great opportunity for laptop users who wishes to perform gaming tasks in their laptops. Without compromising the performance and the heat output. Pascal GPUs can be found in either of the following: MSI, Alienware, Razer, Lenovo, and Asus.
Desktop GTX 1080 inside a laptop is a good achievement. The mobile versions of GTX 1080 is also using 16nm Pascal GP104 chip like their desktop counterparts and has the same count of Cuda cores. The same goes for the GTX 1070 and GTX 1060
The memory type is also the same with the desktop versions, it uses the same GDDR5X memory with the speed of 10Ghz and 320GB/s of memory bandwidth. The same goes for the 256-bit memory interface.
