Nordic Games Says Darksiders Will Live On

By on

For a while, the Darksiders franchise was in limbo as THQ, the makers of the hack and slash game, filed for bankruptcy last year.

The good news is that the new owners, the Sweden based company, Nordic Games, seems very intent on continuing the series. This was further solidified by a comment from Joe Madureira, former Vigil Games Creative Director, which says that the Darksiders series isn?t over.

Madureira took to his Facebook account to answer a few questions about what his current projects are as well as the current status of the former THQ property.

According to him, Darksiders is not dead and the new owner, Nordic, seems very committed to continuing the series. He said that: ?As far as my involvement, I can’t say at this point. Hopefully we will all have exciting news about the franchise soon?.

After THQ?s bankruptcy sale, Nordic acquired the Darksiders IP together with a few other games like MX vs. ATV, Red Faction, Frontlines, Supreme Commander, Stuntman, Full Spectrum Warrior, Juiced, and Destroy All Humans.

Although the franchise isn?t dead, the next game of the franchise probably won?t see the light of day anytime soon, as Nordic Games CEO, Lars Wingefors mentioned that they would be looking into all possibilities with regards to potential sequels. He added that they don?t want to repeat the same mistakes that THQ had in bringing out unprofitable products as that would mean that your days as a developer are over. He went on to say that: ?You need to find the right [development] team and build a smart business model around it?.

What Nordic Games has going for it though is that the THQ games like Red Faction and Darksiders have a lot of fan base. Their fans number in the millions and they are all eagerly waiting for these games? next installment. This is especially true for the Darksiders franchise as the reviews for the game, especially the last installment, has been very positive and has gathered quite a lot of fans.

Hopefully, Nordic gets a good development team going so that they can put out the next Darksiders game in the near future.
