Nokia Privacy, Data Protection, And Service Terms, Regarding Sale Of Nokia Mobile Biz To Microsoft
Microsoft is finalizing its purchase of the Nokia Devices and Services business this April 2014. How will this affect the Nokia customers in terms of services and policies ?
(For information about the sale, do read our feature on ?Microsoft to Continue with Nokia & Lumia Brands. Or Not.? https://www.thebitbag.com/microsoft-to-continue-with-nokia-lumia-brands-or-not/70522 )
Nokia decided to touch base with its registered customers, to share how the sale to Microsoft will affect them. In an email from its Vice President, Chief Ethics and Compliance Officer, Chad Fentress, and its Chief Privacy Officer, Brendon Lynch, Nokia explains that a Microsoft affiliate based in Finland – Microsoft Mobile Oy – will assume all responsibilities for the management of customer data as well as all contractual obligations entered into by existing customers with Nokia.
Nokia emphasized that the data collected from customers will continue to receive the same protection and privacy under the new management.
However, Nokia clarified that with regard to other business units and services that are not included in the sale, particularly the HERE services (location based services and products), Nokia will still continue to manage the related customer information and data files.
It is commendable that Nokia and Microsoft are sensitive to the apprehensions and concerns that Nokia customers are feeling about the sale to Microsoft, and the email from a Nokia executive is a good first step in maintaining the relationship that Nokia has cultivated with its customers all these years.
The email (posted below) that Nokia sent also provided contact information which Nokia customers can use to inquire about any problems and concerns regarding their Nokia data and contracts.
