The previously unannounced Nokia Lumia 638 has been spotted in a Chinese retail website recently, confirming rumors of a Lumia 630 variant to be released in mainland China. It?s hard to keep track of Lumia devices as there seem to be several of its models in the market. But, this upcoming model proves to be a decent entry in its price range, a major selling point for the more price-specific Chinese market.
Earlier this month, the Lumia 630 was launched in India and some areas in Europe including the United Kingdom. The device targets entry-level smartphone users with specs like 512 MB RAM, 3G-only network connectivity, Dual-SIM support, and a single 5-megapixel rear camera. The new Nokia Lumia 638 also has all those except for its 4G LTE connectivity, similar to the Lumia 635. What makes the Lumia 638 different is its 1 GB RAM, as opposed to the 512 MB of the other two Lumias.
The pre-order page for the Nokia Lumia 638 appeared on the website of Shanxi Mobile, a subsidiary company of China Mobile. Coming with a price of 1,199 CNY (or about $ 192), consumers are expected to get their money?s worth with decent specs that this device is set to offer. Aside from the features mentioned, the Lumia 638 comes equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, Quad-core processor clocked at 1.2 GHz and a 4.5-inch display as indicated in the Shanxi mobile listing.
This device is likely to be released only in China. If this proves accurate, the Nokia Lumia 638 would not be the only Lumia to be launched in market-specific manner. For instance, China is the only market where the Lumia 920T was released to. This model, which is packed with a faster GPU, is a variant of the international version called Lumia 920. Meanwhile, a Brazil-only version of the Lumia 630 was released last month, offering an integrated digital TV feature.
As shown in the image below, the Nokia Lumia 638 would come in different colors such as black, white, orange, or yellow. It comes with a battery that can deliver 1,830 mAh worth of power and promises to give up to 600 hours of stand-by time.
