Nokia Mobile Devices 2017

Nokia has long been out of the smartphone race since the introduction of the iPhone. In recent years, from being the phone of choice, it has become a source of mockery with its poor product lineup. Its teaming up with Microsoft did not help at all with the release of the Lumia line of mobile devices. Now, the once glorified phone maker is trying to make a comeback in the mobile phone arena.

According to Digitimes, Nokia in partnership with HMD Global, will be unveiling four additional mobile devices in 2017. These new devices will have expected release dates between the second and the third quarter of next year.

The four new mobile devices will target middle class consumers and will sport screen sizes from 5 to 5.7 inches. The screen resolution will either be Full HD or WQHD. According to the source, the displays for these devices will be supplied by LG Display, Century Technology and Innolux. At the same time, FIH Mobile will serve as the brand?s main manufacturer.

Nokia is also rumored to release two new handsets at the Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2017 event in Barcelona, Spain. According to the said rumor, these two handsets will be marketed as mid-range devices as well. The mobile device, known as D1C, will come in two versions, one selling at $200, while the other at $150.

Both devices will run on the octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 430 chipset with a display resolution of 1080p. The cheaper version will sport a 5-inch display paired with 2GB of RAM. Meanwhile, the more expensive model will have a 5.5-inch display and 3GB of RAM.

The recent influx of competition has driven Nokia into oblivion in the past 10 years. Back in 2013, driven out by competition, Nokia signed a licensing agreement with Microsoft to market its brand of mobile devices. The result of this agreement came to fruition with the range of Nokia branded Lumia devices, but it barely penetrated the mobile phone industry.

This licensing agreement ended last May 2016 and was then replaced by a new one under Finland?s HMD Global. To date, HMD Global holds the rights to produce and market Nokia branded mobile devices.
