Many torrent fans were disappointed with Kickass Torrents and Torrentz were shut down. Now, many are still hoping that the two torrent sites will come back in the future, though chances are that KAT and Torrentz are gone for good.

Whether people would like to admit it or not, almost everyone has tried downloading torrents to watch the latest episode of their favorite TV show or a movie which is not showing in theaters yet. The internet has made it easier for everyone to share almost everything, including music, movies and software. This is the reason why sites such as Kickass Torrents (KAT) and Torrentz became extremely popular.

Countless torrent sites became rampant in the internet over the past several years. Lately, the US government though has been on a mission to crack down on copyright infringement that is being committed by these sites. That is why torrent fans were greatly disappointed when KAT and Torrentz came crashing down.

KAT was probably one of the biggest torrent sites which facilitated the illegal distribution of copyrighted material on the web. Its downfall certainly had a huge effect on the torrent community, with Torrentz voluntarily shutting down too not long after.

While Torrentz was one of the websites where people visit to search for torrents, it does not actually host any torrents on its site. It is merely a torrent search engine so to speak which would show people which torrent sites have the content they are looking for. It was operating in a gray area but the website owners likely saw it as being risky considering the legal implications of what happened to KAT.

For fans who are hoping for KAT to come back in the future, chances are extremely slim that it will happen. MobiPicker reports that Arten Vaulin, the owner of Kickass Torrents was arrested in Poland and will be facing criminal charges in the US for copyright infringement. The charge of illegally distributing copyrighted content is reportedly for an amount worth over $1 billion which is certainly a very serious offense.

With such a huge criminal liability being placed on owners of torrent sites, it is not a surprise if more and more websites will shut down on its own. Certainly, Torrentz made the right decision to stop their operations altogether to avoid risking arrest for similar violations.

Given that operating torrent sites are completely illegal, there is very little hope that KAT and Torrentz will operate once more. Be sure to check back here soon to find out more news and updates on Kickass Torrents, Torrentz and other popular torrent sites to see what will happen next in the US government?s drive against copyright infringement.
