The upcoming Assassin?s Creed Unity looks nothing short of spectacular. As ?the teaser was showcased at E3, you can clearly feel the crowd gawking at the game?s fascinating looks. The animation from the assassin, going down from a roof was extremely detailed. The number of people below also showed that the game will have a good frame rate despite virtually hundreds of characters on screen. Everything looks great and all, but one simple thing (for the consumer?s viewpoint) is missing. With the multiplayer portion of the game, there?s not a female playable character. It didn?t take long for for the reporters at E3 to ask why there are no female playable characters in this Assassin?s Creed game, while in the previous ones with multiplayer, female assassin?s had their fair share of the spotlight. Even ?the PS Vita?s Assassin?s Creed: Liberation starred a female protagonist.

Ubisoft?s answer? It will have ?doubled? the work of the developers. Female characters were in fact, under the company?s feature list until ?not too long ago?. They have been removed as to let their team focus more in production.

?It was on our feature list until not too long ago, but it?s a question of focus and production. So we wanted to make sure we had the best experience for the character. A female character means that you have to redo a lot of animation, a lot of costumes. It would have doubled the work on those things? And I mean it?s something the team really wanted, but we had to make a decision. It?s unfortunate, but it?s a reality of game development.?

A lot of gamers aren?t too pleased with this. From a developer?s standpoint, it may be just as stated, ?going to require additional work. Ubisoft is well known for releasing well-made games every year, and having the production time slowed down is out of the question.

But for some people, Ubisoft?s ?excuse? was more of a bold statement that male characters are the ?default? ones. Others aside from them are just ?additions and extras?.

Despite all these, Ubisoft is firm that, what they are doing is to focus on the production of the game. Indeed, they have 9 teams working on it and it may seem like a resource management problem, but it isn?t.

Regardless of these issues, Assassin?s Creed Unity is surely going to be a commercial success (as with most titles in the series).
