You thought that you?ll never hear about it anymore and you realized that you were wrong after hearing the news. Another Unreal Tournament game is going to be made by the same company who delivered it to us, along with Unreal Tournament fans and developers. All this, free of charge.
Epic Games? Unreal Tournament was once a popular multiplayer shooter. It was already forgotten as the time went by and many graphical advances were made. It has been seven years since we were graced by this excellent shooter, and now, it is making its way back to us and it will be needing some help from its loyal fans in order for another sequel to be made.
The work with the next Unreal Tournament has already been initiated by a small team of Unreal Tournament veterans. Epic Games is also developing the game openly, meaning, interested people/fans can assist them in developing the game, if they have the skills and the passion for having the game, once again, reach its fans.
“We know that fans of the game are as passionate about Unreal Tournament as we are [and] that you have great ideas and strong opinions about where the game should go and what it should be, so let’s do something radical and make this game together, in the open, and for all of us.” Lead programmer, Steve Polge wrote in a blog entry.
As expected, they intend to have the game follow its roots by being a first person multiplayer shooter that will be available on both Windows, Mac and Linux. All the codes and contents to be used for the game development will be at GitHub so it will be open to developers who want to help get the game worked out soon. However, even if the game?s development is ?open? to public and fans? inputs, it does not automatically mean that each and every feature requested will be actually materialized in the final product.
Polge clarified that the game is not just ?Free To Play?, but entirely ?Free?. For any revenue that the game can make, be that a ?donation?, additional content or anything, these earnings will be split by the studio and the developers.
