Developer Electronic Arts (EA) has just released a new The Sims 4 trailer that shows off 20 minutes worth of gameplay footage. But new features are not the only things that stirred up the fans; if you?ve watched the video close enough, an unprecedented Premium membership option also appears to come with the life simulation game.

In The Sims 4 trailer (shown below), a briefly shown frame indicates the supposed upcoming Premium membership option. If the text is too tiny for you to read, here is the transcription: “The Sims 4 Premium. Save on new packs with early access and exclusive items. Become a Premium member to get early access to three new packs, with exclusive items. Your Sims can throw a spooky costume party, camp in the great outdoors, and toast to the new year in style.”

Various editions of the The Sims franchise had relied on revenue from content expansions in the past. Ranging from beach adventure DLCs to even bizarre contents like Katy Perry?s colorful wardrobe. However, aside from The Sims Online, which was released in 2003 along with a $ 9.99 monthly subscription fee, no other Sims title has offered similar options as this apparent Premium membership plan.

As we expect that The Sims 4 will receive a huge amount of expansions and DLCs in the months to come, this membership scheme can be seen as a likely move. EA has also offered Premium memberships to players of the Battlefield game series for quite a while now. Though previous Sims titles did offer premium editions, a membership option will be a first for the series.

Moreover, judging from the text shown in the video, it does sound like a Battlefield-style Premium plan wherein a DLC season pass are offered to players to access new in-game content for a one-time fixed fee. But it seems unlikely that EA will put a regular subscription service in place since they stated previously that they want The Sims 4 to be playable offline too.
