A new Overwatch map will be gracing everyone’s servers sooner than later. Recently, it was revealed that the game’s next map, known as Blizzard World, will become available on January 23. This comes as exciting news, especially considering the fact that fans previously only had 2018 as a baseline for the map’s release date.

New Overwatch Map: Welcome to Blizzard World

Just what is Blizzard World anyway? For starters, this upcoming map is designed as a fictional amusement park in the Overwatch universe. It boasts of a vast collection of areas that sport themes based on several of Blizzard’s other franchises. This includes the likes of StarCraft, Hearthstone, World of Warcraft, and Diablo.

Blizzard World has been available via the Public Test Realm for a few months. However, the announcement of its official launch date means that it will soon be available for other platforms (PS4 and Xbox One) across the board.

The launch of Blizzard World going live marks the first major update for the game in 2018. It seems Blizzard World is only the beginning, as game director Jeff Kaplan reportedly teased at even more additions to expect in the coming year. This ranges from new characters, maps, and other events to look forward to. Additionally, loot box items are said to become available when Blizzard World goes live. According to reports, included in those items are skins for characters such as Widowmaker, Doomfist, Roadhog, and Orisa.

Other Festivities to Look Forward to

One event that fans can keep an eye out for is the upcoming Lunar New Year event. While the game is no stranger to celebrating such festivities — having conducted a special event for 2017’s Year of the Rooster — it will be interesting to see how it translate’s 2018’s Year of the Dog this time around. Taking the calendar into consideration, 2018’s Lunar New Year event is likely to take off on February 16.

The New Hero

In other news, Kaplan previously teased that Overwatch’s next hero may change the tide of the gameplay for players everywhere. As Kaplan shares, the title’s still unknown 27th hero will come as a game changer and will prompt others to come up with new approaches when it comes to gameplay.

Not much is known about the game’s next hero thus far. However, with Kaplan’s comments into account, fans can expect that the upcoming new character will be an addition that may address certain gameplay needs.
