League of Legends is one of the most popular games worldwide, but it is not without its own problems (and partly, these problems contribute to the game?s popularity as well). It always had issues with the community?s ?rude? patrons. While the developers at Riot is trying to deal with this in a very nice way, they won?t stay being too nice to some jerks who don?t know the boundaries of being an ass with other players.
Developers of the game are currently testing a combination of human review and ?machine learning? method to single out players who are crossing the lines of mild trash talking like racism, death threats, gender discrimination, and even homophobic insults. It is going through a test phase for now, to see how much accurate it can do the job, and how few false positives it will return.
If it does work, then we can expect more ?hammer of justice? from the developers for those who are causing the game to be less enjoyable and spreading pointless hate towards others. Players involved in such violation could be banned for 2 weeks up to forever, depending on the severity of the violation, and if it isn?t the first time that they engaged in such banter.
However, some players are complaining about their bans. If these players are caught by the new system and they argue about their innocence in the scenario, Riot will publish transcripts in order for both parties to see the transparency of the issue.
?Some players have also asked why we’ve taken such an aggressive stance when we’ve been focused on reform; well, the key here is that for most players, reform approaches are quite effective. But, for a number of players, reform attempts have been very unsuccessful which forces us to remove some of these players from League entirely.?
Riot developers are working non-stop in order to bring its players the best gaming experience they can provide and we?re more than happy about this. Who wouldn?t be?
For now, let’s just enjoy the game, and its new cinematic video about “A New Dawn”.
