New Hitman Movie in the Works

While the next Hitman game is probably going to take a while before it?s ready for release, 20th Century Fox has been hard at work on a film reboot for Hitman. Dubbed Hitman: Agent 47, the reboot was announced by the company and a few first images were revealed from the movie of Agent 47 himself.

The reboot will star Rupert Friend (Homeland) as the bald, barcode-bearing, genetically enhanced assassin. Friend comes in as a replacement to the late Paul Walker who was originally cast as Agent 47 in the film when the project was announced by Fox last February 2013. The first film based on the popular IO Interactive?s stealth franchise was 2007?s Hitman which starred Timothy Olyphant (Justified) as the assassin.

On the Comic-Con International 2014 panel last weekend, 20th Century Fox debuted the first footage for Hitman: Agent 47. The clip shown at the panel was heavy on action and with different sequences like a car chase and an escape from an interrogation room. Friend was unable to attend the event due to the shooting schedule for Homeland but co-stars Zachary Quinto (Star Trek Into Darkness) and Hannah Ware (Betrayal) were in attendance to discuss their respective characters John Smith and Katia van Dees.

In an interview with Latino Review, Quinto mentions that: ?There is a relationship between Katia and John that is pretty dynamic, I would say.? Quinto mentioned that he likes to take on roles that have ?more than meets the eye,? and that Smith?s character is a good fit because it was a complicated one. He also mentioned that as far as the Hitman series is concerned in relation to the film, he said that it?s ?a great launching-off point.?

The reboot movie is directed by rookie film director Aleksander Bach and also stars Thomas Kretschmann, Dan Bakkedahl, and Ciaran Hinds. Last month, Fox announced that the movie will be hitting theaters on February 27, 2015.

A hitman game that will be released close to the new game?s release date could be a marketing hit for the franchise as a whole but the game has to be able to take on the challenge. Here?s hoping the movie and the game will both be excellent.
