A new addition to the Fieldrunners series is reportedly on development right now. Fieldrunners, a series of a tower defense franchise based from Cambridge, took fame for its innovative gameplay on mobile devices.

The developer, Subatomic Studios, is reportedly working on a??new Fieldrunners installment, in partnership with German developer Flaregames. In a joint press release, both developers will co-develop a free-to-play Fieldrunners title that will be off by 2015.

There will be a few changes to the game as they have adopted a new business model for the series. However, most of the things that gamers loved will be retained. In an interview by PocketGamerz.biz with Flaregames CEO Klaas Kersting, they will still ?stay true to the brand?, and create fun games that both hardcore and new players will love.

This initiative was a result of Flaregames? $12.2 million fund raised due to the first global success of the title Royal Revolt 2. The popularity and reputation that they have garnered, attracted sponsors and investors to provide the funds that will be necessary for their next games. ?The funding allowed them to expand, not just from a typical in-house game development, but also ?to get a new partner that will be helping them, side-by-side.

Subatomic Studios will act as the publisher of the said game. They are the first developer that Flare Games has had to collaborate with. Additionally, Kersting stated that this step would be something like ?a boutique approach? for the company.

“We’re very selective about the games we want to publish. We are looking for studios with a good track record who have proven to understand mobile gaming.?We do not presume to know everything but we are good with mid-core games, with strategy games, with RTSs and RPGs.”, ?Kersting added.

Flaregames started with humble beginnings, starting with their first release, BraveSmart back in May 2012. With all the hype that is going on for their next installment, they are just a couple of blocks away to becoming a huge game developing studio.
