In the NBA trade rumors, the Golden State Warriors may sign Kevin Durant in exchange for Harrison Barnes. Durant will be a free agent on July 1. According to Fox Sports, a rumor of this was already out before the exciting seven-game Western Conference Finals between the Warriors and the Oklahoma City Thunder. The rumor apparently had died down after the series. But after one of the worst NBA Finals breakdown following a record-setting regular season performance, the Warriors might be considering to sign Durant more than ever.
Back in February, there were talks that came out about the possibility of adding Durant to the Warriors lineup. In a report by SBNation, Klay Thompson?s father, Mychal, mentioned that he had heard that the Golden State Warriors would give a great effort in signing Durant ?on good authority.? Also, last January, Chris Broussard of ESPN reported that the Warriors is a legitimate destination for Durant, according to executives around the league.
Now that the Warriors have lost in the Finals to the Cleveland Cavaliers – one of the greatest NBA Finals comebacks – the team is likely to strengthen their lineup. Durant is one of the likely candidates if the Warriors need more aggression on the floor. But because of salary cap complications, the Warriors could not just add Durant but will also have to let go of a Warriors? staple. That staple could be Harrison Barnes.
Barnes did not have a good performance in the last three games of the NBA Finals series and the Warriors may choose not to sign him again. His spot could be replaced by Durant who is eager to get his first NBA Championship ring. Warriors owner Joe Lacob envisions his next move for the team to make them ?more aggressive? and a hungry Durant just might fit the bill.
