The NBA regular season is a little over one month away. Surely, the NBA trade rumors continue to get stronger and stronger. Many teams are trying their best to build a roster that can help them compete with the super teams in the league. With this, several superstars have been linked to countless rumors. Rudy Gay is the most recent one.
Rudy Gay has not exactly had a smooth time in Sacramento. The veteran forward came from a competitive Memphis Grizzlies team and transferred to the cellar-dwelling Kings. Now, it appears that Gay has had enough of losing and he has voiced that he will opt out of his contract at the end of the year.
According to The Vertical, Gay has already informed the Sacramento Kings franchise that he will be declining his player option to stay with the team for the final year of his contract. This means that he will become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.
With Rudy Gay already rumored to be on the trade block as early as the start of the offseason, this news certainly gives the Kings all the more reason to find a trade quickly. They are certainly not going to just let Gay walk away and not gain anything in return. That is why a logical move for them would be to trade the veteran swingman before the February trade deadline.
Trading Gay is not as simple as it seems though. While several teams are reportedly interested in trading to get him, there is certainly a risk involved. With Gay opting out of his contract, the team getting him in a trade may be afraid that he will not sign an extension with them. This could scare away potential suitors for the veteran.
The Indiana Pacers were rumored to be one of the teams interested in Gay. Now it may only be a matter of time before a trade is completed. The Pacers have an intriguing young talent in Myles Turner and proven scorer Monta Ellis could certainly be possible trade candidates.
Nothing is imminent at this point, so fans can only sit back and wait for more details about this developing situation. Be sure to check back here soon to find out ?more NBA trade rumors and other news about the NBA.
