After the significant moves made by Kevin Durant and Dwayne Wade in the last couple of weeks, NBA Trade rumors ?continue to gain heat and this time all eyes in league have shifted onto DeMarcus Cousins.
Sacramento Kings haven?t indicated of trading Cousins so far, but apparently rumors sparked when they prioritized drafting two center players instead of grabbing a point guard which they desperately needs. Though Cousins has been regarded as the most talented man in his team, so far he has not translated his skills into wins for the team.
Cousins averaged 26.9 points, 11.5 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.6 steals and 1.4 blocks per game last season, but the big man is also known for being a hothead, obtaining more technical fouls than any other player since he was drafted in 2010. Also in his six-year long career with the Kings, six coaches were employed by Sacramento earning Cousins the reputation of a ?coach killer.? This in turn has created buzz that Sacramento might be considering Cousins? departure already.
Since the Sacramento Kings already have three centers in the team– Kosta Koufos, Willie-Cauley Stein and Cousins, they will likely be looking to trade him. The latest rumblings in the basketball world suggest that Cousins will make a perfect fit for the Cleveland Cavaliers.
Sources suggest that there are already talks of the Cavs sending Kevin Love and Iman Shumpert for DeMarcus Cousins and Ben McLemore. The trade makes sense as the Cavs are in need of real center after the departure of Timofey Mozgov. They want to use LeBron James at the power forward spot and Love is at a disadvantage defensively when he plays the center spot. So giving up Love will be a win-win for both teams as he will play better at his natural position as power forward.
However, according to FanSided, rumors of Cavs sending Love for Cousins are entirely false. There is no way that the Cavs would give up Love especially since he was a huge reason that the Cavaliers won Game 7 of the 2016 NBA Finals with his great rebounding and low-post play. On the other hand, Cousins with his always disgruntled nature won?t be an ideal fit for Cleveland. So the idea of the Cavs sending Love for Cousins seems purely speculative at this point.
Or, Cousins could actually be traded to the Boston Celtics. Boston could be actively pursuing Cousins as ?their phones are ringing,? according to a CSNNE report. Owner Wyc Grousbeck hinted in a radio show that he?s a player they had previously targeted.
?We were just talking about a trade earlier today where the asking price from the other team was for a difficult player, and I?m not going to say who, but it?s dropped pretty significantly since draft night,” Grousbeck said Thursday. Various reports prior to and after the draft had said that the Celtics reportedly targeted Chicago wing Jimmy Butler, Milwaukee wing Khris Middleton, Sacramento big man Cousins and Philadelphia centers Jahlil Okafor and Nerlens Noel.
So Cousins moving to Celtics is another possibility. Stay tuned for regular updates on NBA Trade news, rumors and speculations.
