Looks like we will have to wait a little bit longer as Dwyane Wade continues to remain a free agent today. With the Golden State Warriors having snatched the topmost coveted free agent Kevin Durant, all eyes are now on Wade, the second most wanted free agent this year.
However, Dwyane Wade?s decision could not be far off as he has reportedly finished meeting with all the teams who expressed interest in signing him up and with whom he believes he can be a part of, including a talk with Miami Heat owner Micky Arison.
Spicing up the Dwyane Wade saga is the fact that the shooting guard?s relationship with the Miami Heat, a team he has played for 13 years, has become a bit spotty as he continues to feel neglected, not to mention his famous altercation with team president Pat Riley, which Arison eventually had to stepped into.
Despite this, even before the free agency could start, Wade has been adamant about staying with the Heat. And, the Heat for its part has capitulated by increasing its offer to Wade to a $40 million-2 year contract, which however, is still $10 million short of what the shooting guard is asking.
Upping the ante for Dwyane Wade?s decision are rumors that he is considering joining one of his best buddies, LeBron James, at the Cleveland Cavaliers. Just a couple of hours within Durant?s signing with the Golden State Warriors, Joe Lull got NBA fans excited when he posted on his twitter account a flight tracker of a flight leaving Fort Lauderdale and heading for Cleveland. The post led to speculation that Wade was taking a ride on a jet plane with James and Cavaliers owner Dan Gilbert.
Who is Joe Lull you might ask, well, he is the same guy who broke the news in 2014 of Gilbert flying to Miami to meet with King James. And, we all know what happened after that.
However, this bit of rumor seems to have died down as Wade met with the Denver Nuggets, Milwaukee Bucks and Chicago Bulls and not with the Cavaliers. The Bulls actually didn?t make it to the meeting but not for the lack of trying as they were hindered by flight issues but they certainly sent feelers that they are serious about getting Wade on their roster.
So, Dwyane Wade?s choice could boil down to these teams plus Miami Heat. With the meetings done, it seems that Wade is just waiting for any of these teams to give him the best offer as all three teams are reportedly working on clearing their salary cap to make room for Wade. With this development, these three teams certainly show more eagerness in having Wade than the Miami Heat.
Another future that NBA fans also continue to wait on is Oklahoma City Thunder?s remaining star Russell Westbrook. Although Westbrook has yet to become a free agent next year, with the departure of Durant, OKC is in a conundrum whether to trade him now or not.
