The Chicago Bulls are currently rebuilding their roster as some of their key players have decided to leave the organization. However, there are claims that the team is also willing to give up forward Taj Gibson possibly for the Sixers big man Jahlil Okafor. Is it because of Gibson?s feud with their new head coach?
Earlier this summer, several veterans left the Bulls, namely Derrick Rose, Joakim Noah, and Pau Gasol. The first two joined Carmelo Anthony and the New York Knicks while Gasol took his talents to the San Antonio Spurs. With their big men gone, it is natural for them to look for replacements, which could be Okafor if Philadelphia would agree to trade him.
With regards to Gibson, there are reports stating he is the next to leave the organization and it is because of their new guide Fred Hoiberg. Issues between the two started early in the 2015-2016 season, which led them to lose several games and not make it to the Playoffs. Rose, Noah, and Gasol seem like to have had enough as they already left the pack and Gibson could be heading in the same direction.
Speaking of the possible trade, the Bulls are reportedly going after Jahlil Okafor in exchange for Taj Gibson. However, the question is, will the Sixers agree? Honestly, it is unlikely to happen. The Philly?s big man is a young athlete with lots of potentials at hand. While for Gibson, the 31-year-old power forward is clearly past his prime, which would give the idea that the Sixers are not going to agree with the trade.
Meanwhile, aside from Okafor, the Bulls are also said to be pursuing DeMarcus Cousins of the Sacramento Kings. Just like Gibson, the big man is also having troubles with the management of his team that also led their veterans to leave the organization such as Rudy Gay and Rajon Rondo. If Cousins will be acquired by Chicago, it is possible that Gibson will be the one to be traded to the Kings.
However, Chicago should make an appealing offer to Sacramento because aside from them, other teams are also going after the big man. The most formidable team interested in Cousins is the defending champions, Cleveland Cavaliers. There are even reports that Kyrie Irving is recruiting him as they play together for the United States in Rio Olympics 2016. But to do so, the Cavs might trade Kevin Love to the Kings.
As of now, it is still unclear whether or not Taj Gibson is going to be traded for Jahlil Okafor. What seems to clearly happen, though, is Gibson leaving the Bulls and if not for the Sixers, it would be for other teams interested in him. Share your thoughts in the comment section below.
