Would the Cleveland Cavaliers? acquisition of DeMarcus Cousins finally push through now that LeBron James will be re-signing with the defending NBA champions?
The Cavaliers seem to be really interested in acquiring Sacramento Kings? Cousins and rumors have it that they are even willing to trade their power forward Kevin Love for him. Will it be possible?
Even before the off-season started in mid-June, several trade rumors have already surfaced about where Cousins would end up before the 2016-2017 season gets underway. It is a known fact that he is indeed a great talent and a threat on the inside, so it is reasonable for him to join a contender team, which the Cavs are.
Recent reports claim that Cleveland is pursuing Cousins and they have already made several trade packages for the Kings that include Love. Although it is uncertain whether or not the latter would accept the offer, it is still interesting to see the Cavs form their own powerhouse team just like what the Golden State Warriors are doing with superstar Kevin Durant joining Stephen Curry, Klay Thompson and Draymond Green.
Speaking of James? contract, it was reported by ESPN that it would be a three year, $100 million deal. His salary of $33 million in the 2017-2018 season is going to be the highest single-season salary in league history, making ?King James? the highest paid in the league for the first time in his NBA career.
Perhaps with James now re-signing with the Cavaliers, they may have more leverage in getting Cousins, who continues to be in demand. Cleveland is not the only team pursuing Cousins. It was previously reported that the Bulls are also going after the big man. During the free agency, the Bulls let go of their star Derrick Rose, but has acquired guards Rajon Rondo and Dwyane Wade. With Jimmy Butler seem to be moving to the third position, the squad needs to form their frontcourt lineup, which only has Doug McDermott and Nikola Mirotic.
As for Love, there are several other teams he could end up this off-season. According to several reports, Love could also be traded for Julius Randle and Larry Nance Jr. of the Los Angeles Lakers. The Atlanta Hawks could also be a good deal for the Cavs if they trade Love for Paul Millsap.
As of now, there is still no confirmation whether or not the Sacramento Kings have already agreed to the trade deals being offered by the Cleveland Cavaliers. It is also not clear as to where Love would end up in this off-season. What is sure though is that the Cavs are indeed forming their own powerhouse team.
