As the NBA regular season is underway, the Dallas Mavericks will take on the Los Angeles Clippers today at the Staples Center. This will be the first time DeAndre Jordan will meet the Mavericks since the controversial agreement he made and eventually withdrew.
Jordan had apparently made a verbal commitment to the Mavericks that he will play for them the next 2015-2016 season during free agency last July. It was reported that the Mavericks would have followed a four-year $80-million agreement if he were to play with them, but the confused Jordan surprisingly had a change of heart and went back to the Clippers.
According to a source, reported by Australia News Network, Jordan was quoted as saying, ?The most emotional part of the whole entire process was when I decided I was going to stay because I knew I had too upset and let down a whole different fan base that definitely got me.
?The Mavericks had a great presentation, a great owner, a great coach, a championship team, but at the same time, I felt like I didn?t give it all of my thought. At the end of the day, we?re basketball players, these great athletes, but we?re also human and we make mistakes.?
On the other hand, the Los Angeles Clippers were glad that he returned and offered him a four-year deal worth $87 million. Mavericks? owner Mark Cuban was outraged when the player dumped the offer and refused to accept Jordan?s apology. So it will definitely be an interesting matchup knowing that it?s become a more heated match.
In his first regular season game, Jordan had 8 points, 12 rebounds, and 4 blocks in an exciting win against the Sacramento Kings.
