The Golden State Warriors have a lot of work to do this off season if they want to return to their former glory. They were terrific during the regular season, breaking the record held by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls with 73 wins. Unfortunately, they fell to the Cleveland Cavaliers in a historic comeback to win the NBA Finals.
Now, the Warriors are faced with personnel issues as they need to beef up their team during free agency to help get them back to their winning ways. Uproxx reports that the team?s first priority is trying to pry away superstar Kevin Durant from the Oklahoma City Thunder. That is going to be quite difficult to do which is why the team has a back-up plan in place. According to Mercury News, in the event that the Warriors do miss out on Durant, they have other top players in mind too such as Al Horford and Joaquim Noah.
The rumblings from the Warriors camp seem to indicate that they are looking at adding a quality big guy to the roster. Andrew Bogut faced health issues during the finals and back-up center Festus Ezeli just wasn?t enough against the Cavs.
Landing Kevin Durant would be awesome for Golden State but their fall back isn?t too bad either. In case the Warriors do sign Al Horford or Joaquim Noah, it would instantly bolster their frontcourt making them one of the favorites to win the title once more.
With the size and talent of either Horford or Noah, the Warriors could have the edge they need over the Cavs or any other super team in the NBA. Free agency begins on July 1 so I guess we will find out what the Warriors have under their sleeves in the next couple of weeks.
