The Golden State Warriors had a historic 2015-16 NBA Season but unfortunately it ended in heartbreak. Despite breaking the regular season record held by the 1995-96 Chicago Bulls by winning 73 games this season, the Warriors ultimately fell short as they lost in a thrilling Game 7 in the NBA Finals against LeBron James and the Cavaliers. Now that the season is over, Golden State is left with some big decisions on how to improve their roster. One report which has popped up is that the Warriors may go after one of the future hall of famer’s who has?is expected to?become a free agent.
According to a report from Sports Illustrated, the Golden State Warriors are rumored to be interested in signing Mavericks power forward Dirk Nowitzki. The Warriors already have a talented frontcourt composed of Draymond Green and Andrew Bogut but clearly adding another offensive player in the mix can only improve their chances of winning it all next season.
The sweet shooting German won an NBA title in 2011 and is still searching for his second ring. He has been with the Mavericks all his career so it may take a lot of convincing to get Dirk in a Warriors uniform. The Golden State does have an opportunity though as it has been reported by Marc Stein via Twitter that Dirk has officially opted out of this contract and will be a free agent this summer.
Whether the move by Dirk is to get a better deal to stay in Dallas or to try and get a ring somewhere else is anybody?s guess at this point. All we can do is wait until free agency starts on July 1st to find out where exactly the former Finals MVP will be playing.
