Indiana Pacers star Paul George will be the cover star of this year?s NBA 2K17. News of the all-star forward?s selection leaked early when a pre-order listing for the game was posted on the official PlayStation blog. 2K Sports formally revealed the cover shortly after. George joins recently retired Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant, who was previously announced as the face of the special legends edition of the game.
Paul George’s Inspiring Comeback
The 26-year-old George had a resurgent season. After missing out on most of the 2014-2015 campaign due to the terrible leg injury he sustained while playing with Team USA, George was back to his old self. He posted solid averages of 23.1 points, 7 rebounds, 4.1 assists, and 1.9 steals per game, leading his revamped Pacers squad to a berth in the eastern conference playoffs while earning spots on the all-NBA third team and NBA all-defensive second team in the process.
The past two editions of NBA 2K have featured multiple cover athletes, so the fact that George was given a solo cover for NBA 2K17 is a pretty big deal. The honor is magnified further by the fact that George is sharing the limelight with Bryant, a player whom he reveres.
“[Bryant] was my [Michael] Jordan,? said Paul to the Indianapolis Star during an interview last year. “Watching him win championships, I remember being at home just watching the games with my mom, my grandma and my dad and just idolizing him.?
There are rumors floating around that George, who is a free agent this year, may consider signing with Bryant?s team, the Los Angeles Lakers.
