?Nashville? Update: Connie Britton, Hayden Panettiere, Plus 7 Others Set to Return for Season 5 on CMT

An update on the musical series ?Nashville? revealed that Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere will be returning with seven other co-stars when the show returns for season five on CMT.

According to TV Line, the two lead actresses will be back for the 22-episode season along with cast members Charles Esten, Sam Palladio, Jonathan Jackson, Clare Bowen, Lennon Stella, Maisy Stella and Chris Carmack.

However, Will Chase and Aubrey Peeples will no longer be cast as series regulars Luke and Layla.

Fans were shocked when a Nashville update last May announced ABC Network?s decision to cancel the country music-themed drama. It was reported that the show?s ending will highlight Maddie getting help from Rayna on reviving her career. The death of Jeff also kept hounding Juliette, who contemplates on telling the truth on the final episode. ?

The show?s fans voiced their disappointment over the cancellation of the critically acclaimed show. Just weeks after the ?Nashville? update was announced, CMT revealed that they have picked up the axed series and will push for its fifth season.

?CMT heard the fans. The wave of love and appreciation they have unleashed for ?Nashville? has been overwhelming,? said CMT network president Bryan Philips.

??Nashville? is a perfect addition to our evolving line-up of big music specials, documentaries, and original series. We see our fans and ourselves in this show and we will treasure it like no other network. Nashville belongs on CMT.?

The new life breathed into ?Nashville? comes after a controversial year for its lead star, Hayden Panettiere. The new mom had to leave during the show?s fourth season to get treatment for postpartum depression. The petite beauty was able to return in January to film the last nine episodes prior to completing her treatment.

Before CMT announced their decision to continue on with the series, the fate of Panettiere?s character Juliette seemed uncertain when the plane she was on lost radio contact. However, an alternate ending revealed by TV Line supposedly had the actress reunited with estranged husband Avery (Jackson) at the airport, but the scene was reportedly discarded.
