Nashville Season 5 will be airing on CMT from ABC and with the transition, two series regulars will not be returning in the next instalment? Will Chase who played Luke Wheeler, and Aubrey Peeples who played Layla Grant.
According to Deadline, even if the show remained on ABC, the two characters will still most likely come to the end of their story arcs. Chase came in as a love interest for Rayna, played by Connie Britton, but by the end of Season 4, his character has successfully tied all the loose ends for a happy ending?supporting Will Lexington (Chris Carmack) in his campaign against homophobia and reconciling with his son and ex-wife.
For Peeple?s character, Layla, who became some sort of a villain in the show for her manipulative character, already had her storyline concluded when she was exposed on her schemes of keeping Avery (Jonathan Jackson) and Juliette (Hayden Panettiere) apart.
In addition, Peeples, 22, actually has a career in journalism waiting for her as she previously revealed that she put off her Harvard University admission when she got the part in the show, US Weekly reports.
The actress told Refinery29 in April 2015, ?I was about to go. Basically the week before I booked Nashville, I was packing up my apartment in L.A. and then I found out I got the part. So, I put it off again. I would love to eventually go [to Harvard]. It?s a big goal of mine. I don?t know exactly when it?s gonna happen, depending on my work schedule, but it?s something I definitely want to do.? She added, ?I?ve always loved to write.?
The rest of the cast are most likely returning in the fifth instalment with Connie Britton and Hayden Panettiere reprising their roles as lead characters Rayna James and Juliette Barnes.
