Netflix has debuted another Narcos Season 2 teaser trailer and a poster for the crime drama series based on the real life of smuggler Pablo Escobar.
The streaming site has been teasing the historical death of Escobar with ?Pablo Dies,? and the latest trailer focuses on the aspect of who killed Pablo.
The first season of Narcos began with Escobar starting his cocaine smuggling business and establishing his drug network commonly known as the ?Medell?n Cartel.? After a number of run-ins with law agencies, Escobar finally negotiated with the government to allow him to be incarcerated in his own prison, La Catedral, which is guarded by his own men. The season ended with Escobar finally escaping the prison after he discovers plans of the government to capture him.
The trailer of the Season 2 of Narcos teases that now that Escobar is home, everyone will want payback from the drug lord including the United States? Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA), rival Cali Cartel, vigilante group Los Pepes and the Colombian government funded Search Bloc.
The question remains as to who killed Pablo Escobar?
Escobar was killed on December 2, 1993 after he and his bodyguard, Alvaro de Jes?s Agudelo aka ?El Lim?n,? tried to escape after being cornered by the Search Bloc. The Colombian electronic surveillance team led by Brigadier Hugo Mart?nez found the drug lord hiding in a middle-class barrio in Medellin.
When the authorities closed in, a firefight broke out and when the two fugitives tried to escape by running across the roofs of adjoining houses, the Colombian National Police shot and killed them. Escobar suffered gunshots to the leg and torso, and a fatal gunshot through the ear.
However, as to who fired the final shot that killed Escobar has remained a mystery. It has given rise to speculations that he was executed by government agencies in collusion with other drug cartels.
Los Pepes/Cali Cartel
There are a lot of conspiracy theories as to the involvement of rival Cali Cartel and Los Pepes in the death of Escobar. The vigilante group Los Pepes, term derived from the Spanish phrase “Perseguidos por Pablo Escobar” (People persecuted by Pablo Escobar), is comprised of enemies of Escobar. Although the name suggested that the members were people persecuted by Escobar, many of its members were rival drug traffickers. There are even theories that the Los Pepes was funded by his rival, the Cali Cartel.
The Los Pepes had ties to the Search Bloc as well and even shared intelligence with them. There are even rumors that United States intelligence agencies, the DEA and the Central Intelligence Agency, colluded with the vigilante group. The popular theory among many Colombians is that Escobar?s death sentence was carried out by Los Pepes members.
Escobar killed himself?
In contrast, many of Escobar?s relatives have maintained that he could have committed suicide. His two brothers, Roberto Escobar and Fernando Sanchez Arellano, believe he shot himself through the ears as he said he would do because if he will be caught alive, he will be extradited to the U.S.
?He committed suicide, he did not get killed. During all the years they went after him, he would say to me every day that if he was really cornered without a way out, he would shoot himself through the ears.?
The answer to the mystery will be discovered when the entire 10-episode Season 2 of Narcos will be available for streaming on September 2.
