Ed Boon, the famed co-creator of the classic Mortal Kombat series, was interviewed by Gamereactor.eu at the E3 conference and talked about the latest installment of the series, Mortal Kombat X.
We already know that Mortal Kombat is brutal, deadly, and full of gore, but what can we expect more from the upcoming console game?
?The main thing that we want to do is introduce new things, new features, new gameplay elements to the mix,? he said. ?This Mortal Kombat, we?re introducing more new characters than we have before.?
?And introducing more features like the character variations ? every character in the game has three versions that have different moves and different kinds of strategies involved with them. So the process of selecting a character and going up against another character is completely different in this game, because of the three versions of every character,? Boon continued.
Okay let?s hold that ?for a moment. He did say three versions per character, right? Then that?s definitely something new. This will make the game more complex and interesting for the players as there will be more ways and techniques to master per character. In its previous versions, Mortal Kombat characters are more one-dimensional with their moves and styles. Hence, making fight scenarios of the game more predictable.
Boon also expressed his excitement that Mortal Kombat X will feature 6 new characters. He talked about one of them: ?One of our characters is called Ferra/Torr and he is this big, hulking character with kind of a little lady that?s on his back. And?s she?s giving him orders? So it?s a really crazy brawling character.?
Wow, so that?s three versions/styles per character and 6 newly added characters. I wonder how much variety is that.
Aside from new characters, players can also use the surroundings to their?advantage. You can propel your character, and leverage yourself on the environments, he said.
Regarding the online features of the game, Boon comments that ?it is basically a persistent online game that everybody participates in, so we?ll give you more details later, but it?s something where we really want people getting online all playing this big meta game.?
Mortal Kombat X will be available for the PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One and is expected to be released next year.
