Skyrim Mods for the Twilight Junkie
At only 3 years old, Bethesda Softwork?s The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim is already heralded as a gaming classic. Once again, they have proven that the tried and tested formula of dragons and a land at war is powerful enough as a backstory, one that needs a hero. This hero would be an epic one of sort, a heralded and prophesied savior who would guide and unite the lands to face the true evil that endangers it. Such is the premise, and we are all glad with it.
As if this wasn?t enough, the presence of a whole treasure chest-full of mods available on the Web is reason enough not to stop playing the game, or play it once more. These mods are actually creatively well-made; some of them are even good enough that, thankfully, you don?t have to pay for them. Most of them caters to a specific desire that wasn?t made possible by the game. A mod even lets you have Thor?s hammer in game, causing thunderous destruction on your foes.
The focus of the? article, however, is the way the vampire-werewolf conflict has invaded even Skyrim. Since appearing in The Elder Scrolls 2: Daggerfall, they have been a fixture in the succeeding games. However, the vampirism disease was already present in Daggerfall; the lycanthrophy disease would only be explored further starting from The Elder Scrolls 3: Bloodmoon, in response to them being thralls of the Daedric Prince Hircine.
In Skyrim, there isn?t specifically a werewolf-vampire conflict, but a conflict with vampire clans comes packaged with the Dawnguard DLC. Here, the Dragonborn aids a human band of vampire hunters operating in Skyrim, called the Dawnguard, against a clan of vampire residing at Castle Volkihar to the far North. There are, of course, mods that help further immerse the player in the conflict. Here are some of them:
-????????? Dynamic Vampire Appearance, Aipex8 and TaikoDragon
This is a very good vampire mod that shows a definite change in appearance when contracting vampirism. Once you contract it, when you further progress along, your appearance changes drastically. The mod takes over the vanilla appearance determined by the game, making you look even less human and more the nightstalker that you have become. There?s no sparkling skin to be found here, folks, only glowing eyes and a menacing, gaunt look.
-????????? Moonlight Tales ? Werewolf and Werebear Overhaul, Brevi and AI99
While the world of Skyrim does have werewolves and werebears, there seems to be something lacking in the gaming aspect. With this mod, players are further immersed in the element of being a werewolf, having to suffer through forced transformations during full moon, and having a band of werewolf hunters hot on their trail. They are also introduced to NPCs who are infected with the same disease recognizing the character for who they are, even while in human form. A lot of other easter eggs are waiting to be discovered when this mod is activated.
-????????? Belua Sanguinare Revisited ? Dynamic Vampires, MofoMojo and Jakisthe
Vampires in Skyrim have been lacking that bite (pardon the pun), making them more into glorified, overpowered bloodmages with a certain hankering for blood, instead of the night creatures they really are. This clever re-imagining of the vampire aspect in the game poses for more challenges and further immersion. Playing as a vampire is never boring with this mod activated, as the whole experience is suited to how you play.
-????????? Tales of Lycanthropy ? Werewolf Overhaul, Brevi
Another mod inspired by the werewolf disease, this mod re-introduces a disease first encountered in The Elder Scrolls: Morrowind, the dreaded Sanies Lupinus disease. There are a lot of new customizations it adds in-game, such as what degree of transformation the player undergoes through each moon phase. There is also an option to modify the way your character violently transforms into a werewolf, along with other options you have to figure out for yourself.
-????????? Royal Bloodline ? Vampire Lord perk tree ? abilities ? and more, xyks
Dawnguard has added a separate skill tree for the vampire and werewolf classes in game, which you can access once you transform. However, the vanilla list seems lacking, at best. This mod addresses the need for a better skill tree, placing adequately needed and leveled skills in it. Aside from that, it adds a few treats to be gotten once you gain lordship over Castle Volkihar.
-????????? Werewolf Mastery, RolandSir
A mod that features further customization for the werewolf class, with even the ability to override a mod and turn off a feature you rarely use. However, the main thing this mod affects is the werewolf perk tree. It comes with its own ability tree, enabling you to further tweak and hone your werewolf abilities the way you see fit.
