Mob Psycho 100 Debuts This July – Ep1 Review and Ep2 Spoilers

By on

Looks like fans of One Punch Man won?t be bored from waiting for the next season. One, original creator of OPM, has yet another ONEderful comedy manga, turned-anime, called, Mob Psycho 100.

Mob Psycho 100 animated series debuted last July 12, 2016. Episode one gave viewers a very good idea of what to expect for the rest of the season, with ?Psychic? and Talk About Spirits Agency owner Reigen Arataka investigating two successive cases. The first one was a spirit of a man who was startled really bad by a cockroach that he jumped so high he hit his head on the ceiling and died. The second spirit was the leader of a notorious biker gang who drove into a tunnel and whose front biker slipped on a banana peel – causing the accidental death of the whole gang. Being a master of persuasion, Reigen faked it as the cases went along. He also revealed himself to be clever and agile, and showed that he is a true con-artist. When things got tough, he called in a young boy named Shigeo Kageyama, aka Mob, to finish the job.

Despite his unspectacular appearance, Mob is actually a powerful esper. The story went on to show how he struggles to suppress his powers to avoid the negative attention he gets. ?All he wanted was to be a normal middle school student with normal middle school problems – nothing more than to be friends with a certain girl in his class, Tsubomi. But it seemed like, the more he tried to withhold his power, the more threatening and stronger it becomes due to his emotional instability.

The episode: ?Self- Proclaimed Psychic Reigen and Mob? ended with a better definition of their relationship. Although it seemed that Reigen was only using Mob for his personal gain and his paranormal business, he still took care and wanted to look out for Mob. This relationship was evident towards the latter part of the episode when, just as they thought that the leader of the gang was the only spirit in the tunnel, another evil and stronger spirit was found to linger within as well. Without hesitation, Mob pursued deeper into the other end, while Reigen learns that this evil spirit has been living in the mountains for hundreds of years and was responsible for the killings inside (except the biker gang who really died because of a banana peel!). He calls out to Mob to stop him, obviously concerned for his well-being. The last scene showed Reigen offering Mob some Ramen before going home.

In the next episode: ?Doubts about the youth ? The telepathy club appears? will be a funny story on how the telepathy club, on the verge of being disbanded by the Student Council Vice President, tries to convince Mob to join them to complete the 5-member club requirement. ?The plot twist of this chapter was definitely hilarious!? according to a Mob Psycho 100 manga fan.
