Surface Pro 5 vs HP Elite X2

Microsoft is rumored to release its upcoming laptop/tablet hybrid, the Surface Pro 5 in spring 2017. It will get tough competition from HP Elite x2 1012 G1 as it is a feature-rich laptop/tablet hybrid. HP Elite x2 will compete with the base model of the upcoming Microsoft Surface Pro 5.

Design and Display

Although HP Elite x2 is not as superior as Surface Pro 5 in terms of hardware configuration, it is brilliant in terms of design and portability. The tablet measures 300 x 213.5 x 8.05 mm and weighs 820 grams. With its keyboard, the tablet is 300 x 213.5 x 16.45 mm thick and weighs 1,270 grams as per details provided by HP.

On the other hand the design of Surface Pro 5 will depend on the new processor. It will reduce the thickness of the device as the Kaby Lake processor will add native USB 3.1 support, whereas Skylake motherboards require a third-party add-on chip in order to provide USB 3.1 ports. Surface Pro 4 measures 292.1 x 201.4 x 8.45 mm and Surface Pro 5 will be more compact.

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to feature a 4K display with new graphics architecture to improve performance in 3D graphics and 4K video playback. Elite x2 is fitted with a 12.0″ diagonal BrightView LED-backlit WUXGA display with 1920 x 1280 resolution 192 ppi density. Intel HD Graphics 515 is there to enhance the video and graphics quality.

CPU, RAM and Internal Storage

Microsoft Surface Pro 5 is expected to roll out with the Intel ?Kaby Lake? processor that will enhance the performance and battery life. The latest NVIDIA graphical processing unit will be there as well. On the other hand, HP Elite x2 is powered by sixth Generation Intel Core M processors with vPro support. So, Elite x2 is not as good as Surface Pro 5 in terms of hardware configuration. Both of these devices will be running Windows 10.

Similar to HP Spectre X2, Elite x2 offers up to 256 GB SSD while Surface Pro 5 is supposed to offer up to 1TB SSD storage. Rumors suggest that Surface Pro 5 will feature up to 16 GB RAM. Elite x2 offers maximum 8 GB of RAM.

Ports and Sensors

HP includes a USB Type-C port. Although Microsoft has not confirmed anything about the specs of Surface Pro 5, it will most probably include USB Type-C port. Other than USB Type-C, the Elite x2 tablet includes 1 docking connector to base and 1 headphone/microphone combo on tablet.

The keyboard includes Display-Port 1.2, 1 USB 3.0, 1 USB 3.0 charging, docking connector to tablet, docking connector for dongle support, headphone/microphone combo, 4.5 mm multi-pin AC port and expansion slots. Elite x2 also includes accelerometer, magnetometer, gyro, ambient light sensor, Proximity, Hail Sensor and fingerprint reader.

For the prices of these devices, TheBitBag team would recommend to our readers to wait for the official statement about the price of Surface Pro 5. As for the HP Elite x2, the base model with the Core M3 processor costs $899 while the Core M5 model of Surface Pro 5 is also supposed to roll out with the same price tag.
