The highly awaited and heavily rumored Microsoft Surface Phone is expected to arrive sometime in 2017. Despite repeated rumors, the software giant has not confirmed a single detail about the phone yet. Reports say that the device may not even exist as doubts have been casted about the proposed early launch of the Surface Phone.
Surface Phone release
Earlier this month, reports of Microsoft?s presence at the Mobile World Congress gave wind to a flurry of rumors. The Surface Phone is said to be unveiled in the upcoming event in Barcelona, Spain called the MWC 2017 event. It is scheduled to take place between Feb. 27 to Mar. 2, 2017. The Surface Phone release, however, is not happening, according to Forbes.
Sources reveal that Microsoft?s Surface Phone is not even close to being ready yet. The setback is due to the company needing to further update its own software for the device. The Lumia lineup largely failed due to the limitations of the Windows Mobile OS. The Surface Phone could face a similar failure in the case of a premature launch.
Microsoft would instead seek views of developers at the MWC to set course for their Surface smartphone. It is also easy to assume the Surface Phone will be more of a business oriented device. Hence the Surface Phone release is delayed until Microsoft figures out the market they are targeting.
Reports, however, say the Surface Phone could be seen possibly with Windows 10 Redstone 2 update rollout. Microsoft usually unveils its major update during mid-year. As such, the Surface Phone may launch in the second half of 2017.
Surface Phone Features and Specs
Despite the repeated delays, tech enthusiasts are not ready to let go of their Surface Phone dream. Rumors and speculations continue as fans mull over the possible features and specifications of the Surface Phone.
The Surface Phone is so far confirmed to pack Qualcomm?s next-gen Snapdragon 835 processor. The chipset will provide either a 30 percent performance or 40 percent power efficiency compared to the previous Snapdragon SoCs. The device is also said to be packing a whopping 6GB RAM in order to provide Continuum feature.
In terms of camera, the Surface Phone will have a 23MP rear camera paired with a Carl Zeiss lens. There are even rumors of a dual lens camera, similar to the iPhone 7 Plus. An 8MP front-facing camera is expected to be seen up front for selfies and video calling.
Other Surface Phone features and specs include 2K to 4K display resolution. There are also hints of features like Wireless charging and USB Type-C support coming to the device.?Stay tuned to TheBitBag for more Surface Phone updates and leaks.
