Microsoft OneNote?s Free Version for Windows Now Available for Download

The free versions of Microsoft?s OneNote are now available for immediate download on both desktop Windows and Mac. Just a week ago, there was a rumor that the software giant was preparing to launch a free version of OneNote for the two operating systems. Microsoft delivered both free versions on March 17.

Now Available at OneNote.com

Consumers can download the free OneNote version for Windows at OneNote.com. Microsoft released free versions of OneNote for Windows Phone, Windows 8 and the Web. This recently launched free version for the desktop Windows does not include all features in the paid version.

It means that the software will not have SharePoint support, Outlook integration or version history. Users must upgrade to the paid version to enjoy the said features. It is also ad ? free and not just a temporary trial version, but limited to home or school use only.

OneNote for Mac

The software giant is broadening OneNote?s platform support to gain an edge over its rivals, especially Evernote on its note ? taking front. The free version for Mac may be downloaded from the Mac App Store. This is the first time that it has been made available for Mac, but was already previously available for iPad, iPhone, Android phones, and Android tablets.

OneNote Service Open to Third ? Party Developers

Microsoft also announced that the OneNote service is now available to third ? party developers. Available at OneNote.com, this service offers a cloud programming interface to connect applications. Features include the OneNote Clipper that lets users save Web pages to OneNote, the optical character recognizing Office Lens that capture whiteboards and documents with Windows Phone, and the new me @ onenote.com e-mail feature that allows you to send notes to OneNote.

The software giant is currently working on a new, updated version of OneNote for Windows 8. This project will be a part of the company?s Gemini suite of apps. Microsoft is also expected to release an updated version of OneNote for iPad users this March, as part of the Office for the iPad launch. For excited Mac and desktop Windows users, get a copy of the free OneNote version and begin installing it to enjoy the new perks.
