Despite numerous rumors since the fall of the Lumia brand, Microsoft?s highly anticipated next Windows 10 OS-based Surface Phone has failed to materialize. The Redmond giant?has had very little success with its mobile devices. The share of Windows-based devices is mere one percent in the market dominated by Android and iOS.
For quite some time now, Surface Phone rumors have been surfacing but Microsoft continued to deny them. However, CEO Satya Nadella essentially confirmed the device revealing that they are working on the ultimate mobile device. While not much has happened since, latest reports offer much more concrete proof of the Surface Phone.
Surface Phone Testing Begins
A Chinese daily announced that Taiwan-based Pegatron will start trial production of the Surface smartphone, reports NDTV Gadgets. Pegatron is one of Apple?s major suppliers, proving the device could indeed be a high-end Surface smartphone.
The smartphone is expected to launch in 2017 or early 2018, according to the report. The?device will run an Intel-based chipset and have the ability to run x86 applications in Continuum. The report, however, failed to get into specifics of the trail production of the Surface Phone.
Rumor has it that the upcoming Surface smartphone?would be launched in three variants: Consumer Edition, Business Edition and Enthusiast Edition. The first could be a reasonably priced device, while the business edition is to target the professionals. The last is expected to directly compete with the likes of the iPhone 8 and the Samsung Galaxy S8 series.
In addition, Surface mobile?will see a complete re-design with the company adopting a metallic casing over earlier plastic models. Microsoft is also said to be working on maintaining a similar design frame with other Surface devices. This means you can expect a premium finish you?d expect from Surface line.
