Konami has long announced that Metal Gear will carry on without its known director Hideo Kojima. In fact, in a recent interview with Metal Gear Central, Solid Snake?s voice actor David Hayter said that the Metal Gear series is similar to Star Wars as the latter continues on without its known author. Here?s the video of the said interview.
According to GamingBolt, Hayter had a recent voice work with Paul Eiding, who was the voice actor for Metal Gear?s Colonel Roy Campbell. According to Hayter, he and Eiding made a recording using the voices of Snake and Campbell for a yet-to-be-determined project. As of the moment, Konami has yet to reveal if they are making Metal Gear Solid 6.
Hayter pointed out an analogy of Metal Gear and Star Wars around halfway in the interview video. The voice actor apparently can?t deny Kojima?s influence on the series, and according to him, Metal Gear may need a worthy replacement of Kojima to supply a follow-up to the franchise.
In hindsight, the Star Wars series share a similar fate with Metal Gear. Star Wars lost George Lucas, and Metal Gear lost Hideo Kojima. The only difference is J.J. Abrams was able to make a great follow-up to the saga with Star Wars: The Force Awakens, while the Metal Gear series has yet to find a replacement for Kojima. Konami has not announced the next director who will take the helm for the Metal Gear series.
As Hayter puts it, Konami won?t let go of Metal Gear because it?s an established series that generated revenue for their company. It?s still a large mystery if Metal Gear Solid 6 will be a smash hit or a large flop because of the lack of updates from Konami regarding the title.
