The?Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain?gameplay in the introduction sequence is arguable?the best and?most cinematic in the series. Director Hideo Kojima?s attention to detail is heavily felt here. Not everyone will understand all the details and references of Kojima such as the Moby Dick reference, song from the Sony Walkman, and the character customization. Hence, we tried to all the interesting Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain references for you.
An old Sony Walkman hums David Bowie’s original song ?From The Man Who Sold The World? as performed by Nirvana. This song alludes to Big Boss? army who are nation-less, PasterMagazine said. The music also serves to let people know that the game transitions from the 1974/1975 setting of Ground Zeroes to?the current 1984 timeline in The Phantom Pain, the report said.
Moby Dick Reference
The fellow patient who helps at the start of the game calls himself Ishmael and calls Big Boss as Ahab. This is obviously a Moby Dick reference. Aside from the names of the shared name of characters, the turnout of events in MGS5 TPP?may have also been alluded. In Moby Dick, Ahab exclusively sees the whale as an embodiment of evil while Ishmael is open minded as he?is unsure what to think about the whale. Ishmael says that the ?The Whiteness of the Whale? can mean many things, Cliffnotes stated.
The doctor tells Big Boss that he must alter his appearance because the whole world wants him dead. After the player has decided what appearance they want via a character customization feature, the assassin named ?Quiet? stealthily murders the nurse and chokes the doctor to death. The efforts you exerted in creating your new appearance is wasted as the doctor was unable to perform the plastic surgery.
Why is there a full-fledged character customization if it wasn?t applied? This might have been Kojima?s way of trolling the players. Also, the character customization feature might be used for the upcoming Metal Gear Online. Know more about the feature here.
Man On Fire (Spoiler Alert)
Do you feel that the ?Man On Fire? looks familiar? Well that?s because you have seen him already from MGS3: Snake Eater. According to the Metal Gear Wikia, The Pschochinetic Psychomantis look-a-like child, Tretij Rebenok, reanimated Volgin?s Corpse. He found Volgin?s body at a razed facility and reanimated him for the XOF forces.
