Mean Girls Musical is happening! Tina Fey was at the Times Talk for her movie Whiskey Tango Foxtrot?s promotion where she confirmed that the musical version of 2004 American teen comedy Mean Girls is in the works currently, according to Refinery29.
“Yes,” she said. “It is still happening. It’s only… years away,” she joked.
Fey revealed that she was working on the script with her husband Jeff Richmond along with lyricist Nell Benjamin who was also a part of Legally Blonde musical. The confirmation is big news for all music lovers.
?In general, I don?t know why I didn?t just try to do Mean Girls 2. Everyone does [sequels],? she said. For many years, Paramount kept asking her to help them ?produce a follow-up to the original? flick.
Stern wanted to know Fey?s opinion about the tv movie and asked, ?It was horrible, right??
?I don?t know ? Sometimes it?s okay [to not make a sequel], right?? she responded.
The former Saturday Night Live star wrote the screenplay of the 2004 comedy flick and also acted in it. The movie earned nearly $129 million at the box office. Mean Girls ?included songs like Pass That Dutch, Beautiful, Naughty Girl, Fire (Yes, Yes Y’all), Halcyon, At Seventeen and Love’s Theme. Some of the actors who starred in the film were Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Lizzy Caplan. Amanda Seyfried and Tina Fey.
Mean Girls was partly based on Rosalind Wiseman’s non-fiction Queen Bees and Wannabes. The book highlights the challenges of the teenage?girls? behavior and how they can be solved.
Meanwhile, viewers will get to see Fey in the role of Kim Baker, a war correspondent in her new release Whiskey Tango Foxtrot. The American war film is directed by Glenn Ficarra and John Requa.
