According to Time, Burger King published full-page ads in the New York Times and Chicago Tribune to combine the Big Mac and the Whopper which for world peace day this September 1. Burger King proposed to hold a joint shop in a parking lot between McDonalds and Burger King in Atlanta where they would serve their burger-mashup. The proceeds will be turned over to Peace One Day.
?In the proposed pop-up shop, employees from both companies would wear special uniforms, and the burgers they would serve might blend the Big Mac?s top bun? and Big Mac sauce with the tomato slices and 4-ounce meat patty from the Whopper, among other things,? New York Times reported.
McDonalds Arches Away From Proposal
Sounds delicious? Well you will never get to taste an official McWhopper as Golden Arches outright rejected the idea.
?We love the intention but think our two brands could do something bigger to make a difference,? McDonalds CEO Steve Easterbrook said on the official McDonalds Facebook page. “P.S. A simple phone call will do next time,” Easterbrook added.
Despite the rejection of the ?burger wars? peace-treaty, this event was still able to bring awareness towards the Internation Peace Day, ‘Peace One Day’ founder Jeremy Giller said.
?I am delighted with the result of today? [with] so many people finding out [about International Peace Day]? I look at this as sort of a real success,? Giller told Mashable.
