The roster of Marvel vs Capcom Infinite just got a bit bigger, now that Spider-Man, Frank West, Haggar and Nemesis have been announced for the crossover fighter. None of these fighters are particularly new, since they were all in Marvel vs Capcom 3 and the Ultimate version released a year after, which was later ported to PS4 and Xbox One. In fact, Spider-Man has been in these crossover games since Marvel Super Heroes back in the 90’s.
A fan was able to share off-screen footage of the reveal from SDCC on Instagram, where we see all four characters in action. Admittedly, there’s nothing too new with these characters, aside from a new Level 3 Hyper Combo from Spider-Man, which fans will appreciate. There was also a new stage shown, which seems to be an AIM base with MODOK, who doesn’t seem to be a playable character this time, so that might disappoint MvC 3 players.
Spider-Man’s appearance in Marvel vs Capcom Infinite was never in question, though they seem to have delayed announcing him to keep audiences “surprised” for SDCC. He is a fan favorite character, though he was never considered top-tier compared to characters like Doctor Doom, Virgil and Sentinel, none of whom are confirmed for Infinite. Doom and Sentinel might not make it due to Marvel’s issues with 20th Century Fox, who own the license for X-Men and Fantastic Four movies.
Interestingly enough, this reveal focused more on Capcom characters, which fighting game fans might appreciate had the fighters been new participants instead of returning ones. As of this writing, the only new Capcom characters are Mega Man X, Jedah and Sigma, who is a DLC character. A Hunter from Capcom’s Monster Hunter series has been rumored for the roster as well, but he has yet to be confirmed by the higher ups, so it’s hard to say if he/she will be in the game.
