With the recent re-releases of the Marvel Ultimate Alliance games, fans have begun wondering if this means we will be seeing more Marvel video games from now on. Insomniac’s upcoming Spider-Man PS4 project has also gotten fans excited at the possibility of new titles based on our favorite superheroes.
Until any other new titles are released, there are a few games under the Marvel banner that fans would like to get a re-release. While none of them are masterpieces, some of them are ridiculously fun and are able to capture the spirit of the characters incredibly well. Most of them don’t even need DLC. Here are the Marvel video games fans would like to see get re-released for current-gen consoles and PC.
Incredible Hulk: Ultimate Destruction
This underrated game didn’t just have players controlling the Hulk; it also let them loose on a city that could be ? in the Jade Giant’s words ? smashed. It was packed to the brim with action, innovative attacks and a lot of monsters to fight worthy of The Hulk’s attention.
A video game based on The Incredible Hulk movie in 2008 tried to replicate the success of Ultimate Destruction but to no avail. If any game does the Hulk justice, it’s this one.
While Spider-Man 2 and Web of Shadows are also worthy of the re-release treatment, none of them have a story as good as the one in Ultimate Spider-Man. Written by Brian Michael Bendis and with a visual style similar to the art of comic book artist Mark Bagley, Ultimate Spider-Man was a pitch perfect recreation of the long-running comic book series.
Players controlled a fairly young Spider-Man in a glorious cel-shaded environment ripe for web swinging. What also made this game great was the ability to destroy the city as Venom, since the game let players switch between the two. Even better, fans who beat the game can switch between the two characters at any given point.
X-Men Legends Bundle
With the X-Men movies still going strong, it would be wise for Activision to re-release the two great X-Men Legends games. The predecessor to Ultimate Alliance, Legends let players control a variety of X-Men, including Cyclops, Wolverine, Storm, Jean Grey and Jubilee, among others.
The first game has the team stopping Magneto, while the second game forced The Brotherhood to team up with the X-Men to stop Apocalypse. This meant that players could use some members of the enemy team, including Magneto, Toad, Scarlet Witch and Juggernaut.
