Marvel Shakeup: Thor to be Portrayed by a Woman

By on

Everybody knows Thor as he is one of the classic Marvel characters that was created by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Larry Lieber way back in 1962. Not only is he a member the first Avengers, but the recent films about him have captivated the audience and have been very successful in the box office. The movies were written well and Loki is also a great villain so that attributes to the movie?s success as well. In an interesting update, it was announced that Thor?s latest arc would be, at least in the comics, a woman in the near future! The announcement also came from an unlikely source as it was first revealed on The View.

Whoopi Goldberg explained on the show saying: ?Thor, the God of Thunder, he messed up.” She added by saying: ?He is no longer worthy to hold that damn hammer of his. And for the first time in HISTORY that hammer is being held BY A WOMAN.?

It seems as though Thor, the character that we all know, won?t become a woman (that?d be really weird). Instead, with the current Thor losing his status and Mjolnir being wielded by a woman, the title of Thor will be passed on. This isn?t the first time this has happened in the comic book universe. There are similar story arcs where other characters wore Batman?s costume even though Bruce Wayne remained in the book?s story line.

The story doesn?t seem to be a one-off type of thing either. According to Ryan Penagos, executive editorial director of Marvel Digital Media, he quoted Thor writer Jason Aaron, saying: ?This is not She-Thor. This is not Lady Thor. This is not Thorita. This is THOR.?

This is a big deal for the comic book world as the announcement was made by a popular but quite unrelated source in The View, and with the backing of social media, this could be a big success not only for the Thor series but also for the comic book world in general. A lot of speculation will be coming up with this new announcement and how the Thor series will continue in the comic book world as a whole.
