Marvel comic series Runaways makes it to the small screen on streaming service, Hulu. Gossip Girls? Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage will be running the superhero series, with the pilot already underway.
The new superhero TV series is based on the comic book by Brian K. Vaughan and Adrian Alphona about a rag-tag team of teenage superheroes. Hulu already ordered a pilot episode from Schwartz and Savage, as well as additional scripts following the pilot episode.
Schwartz said in a statement, ?I?m a long-time fan of Runaways and couldn?t be more excited to bring Brian and Adrian?s characters to life.? While Savage said, ?Josh and I can?t wait to get to work for Marvel and Hulu.?
This upcoming TV show from Marvel and Hulu will also serve as a huge comeback for the Marvel comic series after years of development, neglected film scripts and several cancelled ongoing comic series, Comic Book Resources reports. It has already been seven years since the release of the last issue, but the uniqueness of the characters, fresh concept and avant-garde style of art, has become one of the titles new readers look for when they want dive into the Marvel Universe.
The comic series debuted in 2003 and this television adaptation marks a change in Marvel Television?s operations. Because instead of streaming on Netflix like other Marvel TV series such as Jessica Jones, Daredevil, and Luke Cage, the teenage superhero series will be arriving on Hulu. Just as CBR notes, deviation from the norm and defying expectations is what the Vaughan-Alphona comic has been all about ever since.
Runaways started as an underdog series being crafted by two up-and-coming creators at that time. From a surprise hit, it grew to one of the most enduring new concepts released by Marvel in the last decade. Even several years later, the characters of the comic series still resonate, and it?s going to be exciting to see that a much wider audience will now get to experience and enjoy their story.
