Mafia 3 Sign of the Times will be out later this month, and 2K Games has spilled the beans regarding what Lincoln Clay will face in the final story DLC. After “Faster Baby!” focused on races and “Stones Unturned” dabbled with war, it looks like “Sign of the Times” will take a slight horror approach. Seems like Lincoln and Father James will have to deal with a cult, after the result of a ritual sacrifice gone wrong.

According to the 2K website, the DLC will take fans to the drug-induced underbelly of New Bordeaux, something we didn’t really see in the main game, so this could be interesting. Taking on cults was teased before the announcements were made, and having a new DLC story based on it should make the area more interesting. It will be interesting to see what kind of gameplay the DLC has, although it won’t stray too far from what is seen in the open-world base game.

Ed Fowler, the game’s Senior Writer, said that players are in for more deliberate pacing, among other things. “From the moment that the “Sign of the Times” DLC kicks off, you’re in for more deliberate pacing. There’s a mystery to solve with Lincoln searching for stray objects left behind, strange writing – you’ll even examine bodies for clues. By eyeballing the environment and using a blacklight flashlight to uncover hints, you’ll zero in on where The Ensanglante operate and what the hell their endgame is for New Bordeaux. At key points in this DLC, we have these investigation zones where you’ll methodically look for clues that reveal more of the truth… and it can quickly turn a corner where you’ll be dealing with cult members in tense firefights.”

“The inspiration for “Sign of the Times” is pretty clear. The late 1960s was a time of social and civil unrest – which we cover extensively in the game – but also of hallucinogenic experimentation and crazed cults, the horrible memory of the Manson Family being the most infamous. We were inspired to tell a story that represented that element of the time period, which led to The Ensanglante you tangle with in New Bordeaux,” said Bill Harms, the narrative director of Mafia 3.

Mafia 3 Sign of the Times DLC will launch on July 25. This expansion is part of Mafia 3’s $29.99 Season Pass.
