The MacGyver 2016 premiere got me all excited as this was one of my fave TV shows when I was a little girl. I always thought Mac was the smartest, toughest hero in the world! And minus the guns, mind you. He?d rather die than use one just to get rid of his nemesis. Which never really happens because he?s so slick he almost always gets away unscathed.
Nevertheless, CBS finally decided to do a TV reboot after almost a quarter of a century. So what can MacGyver fans actually look forward to?
First off, our beloved hero is aged down, played by X-Men: First Class’ Lucas Till. He’s cute and all, yes, but Richard Dean Anderson is still the cuter, more charming guy for me (sorry, Till fans!). Anyway, storyline is basically the same. He’s a brilliant government agent who knows how to get out of even the stickiest of situations. He improvises and uses practically anything in order to survive. Duct tape, paper clips, bolts and screws, you name it, he’s done it!
His new Mission Impossible-like team includes their back up muscle, Jack Dalton played by George Eads, the lovely hacker Riley Davis played by Tristin Mays. There’s his best friend Justin Hires as Wilt Bozer, and Big Boss Patricia Thornton played by Sandrine Holt.
So the pilot episode jumps into action right away. Mac is sneaking into a mansion posing as guest, looking stunning in his coat and tie. His team is about to steal a dangerous weapon from these bad guys. So this heist basically involves some classic MacGyver improvisation. There’s a boat chase and some hostage taking in the first couple of minutes.
After their latest mission was through, they went through some changes and practically arm-wrestled their way to convince their boss Sandrine Holt the need for a computer genius in the team. This in the person of Riley Davis. Together they aim to stop some evil personalities from using bio weapon and mass murdering millions of people.
MacGyver is a wholesome, funny, action packed series filled with crazy adventures. If you want to see a guy who can do anything to save the day, watch this. It’s the perfect thing to watch together with the entire family. Yes, there are some explosive scenes which may be a bit too much for the small kids, but that’s why you parents are there, right? Common sense also tells you to remind the kids “DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME” for the coolest scenes and tricks they might want to try out themselves.
Overall, it?s a great TV reboot and you?ll definitely enjoy it. Then again, MacGyver is my childhood hero, I?m a fan and I?m biased, so don?t take my word for it- watch it!
