Recently, Kobayashi San Chi No Maidragon has just ended this last April 7 with its 13th episode. Avid anime fans of the series don’t need to be sad as they may be expecting to find a similar new anime this Spring 2017. Here are some new anime to fill up that Maidragon itch:
A-1 Pictures’ upcoming anime has a sibling romantic comedy where the main characters are a young light novel author and his shut-in little sister. Currently, the show already has a few episodes out and already has some humorous dialogue from its characters. However, the show’s humor seems to be far from Maidragon’s overall wholesome comedy.
Meanwhile P.A Works Sakura Quest featuring anime girls about restoring tourism to a small countryside town. Previously, P.A Works made few series about work-focused anime particularly Hanasaku Iroha and Shirobako. Hanasaku Iroha featured a little peek into Japanese inn work and Shirobako featured some representation of the work of an animation studio. Overall, this show may feature some humorous scenes with work-related context like Kobayashi-san’s life as a dependable office worker. Anime fans may see Kobayashi-san’s mature dialogue between its characters. Sakura Quest has already a few episodes out like Eromanga Sensei.
Free Timeless Medley Kizuna Movie
Albeit being a sports anime movie, Kyoto Animation handled both Maidragon and Free’s animation during their series runtime. Anime fans will be able to see Kyoto Animation’s vibrant style once more although it’ll be more focused on delivering detailed movements rather than cartoony representation of characters. The movie will be released this April 21 but fans will have to wait longer for an official release outside Japan.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maidragon’s Charm
Overall, the show featured some supernatural creatures starting to mix with Kobayashi-san’s life as after Tohru agrees to become her maid. The supernatural elements are downplayed as the show only discusses the non-human world and its politics mildly and focuses much on the main character’s daily life. The juxtaposition of the supernatural characters enjoying regular human life and Kobayashi-san meeting more of them as the series is effective in setting up the show’s warm overall feel.
The show successfully delivers this warm feel as Kobayashi and other human characters treat the supernatural characters normally and don’t strongly bank its story on character differences. The show does point that out every now and then but it rarely rolls out to become the main discussion of an episode. Potentially, we’ll have to wait for another show that is as lighthearted and effectively humourous like Maidragon. Stay updated with more Winter 2017 anime news here on The BitBag.
