Lord Varys May Be the Best Character in Game of Thrones

By on

Lord Varys the Eunuch ? formerly the Master of Whisperers on the King?s small council? may be the best character in the entire Game of Thrones universe.

While many believe that Lord Varys (Conleth Hill) is a traitor who?s able to switch sides whenever it?s convenient, one Redditor named gmnitsua recently pointed out that the sly eunuch may be the only character who has been playing his cards right.

Thanks to his many ?little birds,? the same child spies that Queen Cersei later on uses for her own gains and ulterior motives, Lord Varys has been able to not only gain information?secret or otherwise?about friends and foes, he?s also been successful in keeping himself out of harm?s way and always aligning himself with the winning side.

And according to gmnitsua, Lord Varys has always been on the side of Daenerys Targaryen since the very beginning. Everything that he?s done was all for the sake of putting a Targaryen back on the Iron Throne.

You thought that Lord Varys testified against Tyrion Lannister (Season 4) when Tyrion was being tried for the assassination of Joffrey Baratheon to protect himself? Think again. Lord Varys, according to the fan theory, wanted Tyrion to be adjudged guilty, so that he?d be able to sneak him out of King?s Landing (plus, kill Tywin Lannister) and bring him closer to Daenerys Targaryen.

And you thought Tyrion crossing paths with Jorah Mormont was a coincidence? Well, Lord Varys made it happen.

If you?d also recall, when Ser Barristan Selmy was relieved of his duties as Lord Commander of the King?s Guard and replaced by Jaime Lannister, it was Lord Varys who arranged for his travel to Essos. Lord Varys knew that Ser Barristan Selmy would cross paths with Daenerys Targaryen, who at the time was still struggling to find resources to build an army. Lord Varys knew that Ser Barristan, being a Targaryen devotee, would throw his support behind Daenerys.

Ser Barristan was, after all, good friends with Rhaegar Targaryan, the brother of Daenerys Targaryen.

Let?s not forget the speculation that Varys could be a secret Targaryen. According to MoviePilot: ?That might sound insane, but bear in mind that Varys was castrated in a blood magic ritual, the kind traditionally practiced on those who possess king’s blood (as with the burning of Princess Shireen at Winterfell, for instance).?

While no one really is certain where Lord Varys?s loyalty lies, we know that Lord Varys wants one thing: to restore peace, safety, and security to the realm especially now that the threat of the White Walkers is looming over Westeros.

And perhaps Varys is right. The only possible leader who can effectively beat the White Walkers is the one with the powerful army and three fire-breathing dragons.
