Just last week, Bandai Namco released an accolades trailer for the eerie platformer with a big surprise at the end-part of the video that potentially teases an upcoming Little Nightmares DLC. Some believe this tease could be for a Little Nightmares 2 entry, but that doesn’t seem to be the case based on the small hint found on the game’s official website.
Found on the official website are descriptions for each “places” in the game. Each area makes up for one chapter. However, a short glimpse at the official page shows a total of six areas. Hovering your mouse towards it simply brings a “coming soon” prompt.
Due to this, it’s undoubtedly the next piece of content for the game is an additional area to explore in. What area players will navigate in is still unknown, but the short teaser in the accolades trailer shows Six watching a young boy via one of the ship’s eye-shaped monitors. The young boy seems to be out at the docks, possibly near The Maw.
Update: The ‘Coming Soon’ part in the official site has now updated, adding in “The Lair” as one of the places in the game. However, this is area is already present in the base game.
Young Boy is a Playable Character?
It’s still unknown if this is the same young boy that gave Six a piece of meat when she was feeling hungry. Whether we’ll simply get to observe the boy or play as him is also unknown yet.
We’ll also have to wait if we’ll get to encounter some new deadly monsters in the Little Nightmares DLC. The official website currently doesn’t have any new monsters tentatively listed.
Nonetheless, we’ll surely get to experience something new as even the publisher’s press release that comes attached with the accolades video hints that it includes a clue about “the future of LITTLE NIGHTMARES.” The first place players can hope to see more of Little Nightmares lore is in the upcoming tie-in comic scheduled this May. The four-issue mini-series aims to “dive deeper into the vast universe of Little Nightmares and learn more about events connected to the game and beyond.”
Don’t Expect Much
Regardless of what the Little Nightmares DLC has in store for players, fans shouldn’t expect to have the full story laid out for them. It’s worth noting first that the developers never intended players to fully comprehend the game’s story. Due to this, players should expect the same thing in the expansion. “This isn’t your world,” Little Nightmares narrative designer Dave Mervik told The Verge. “It wasn’t built for you, it doesn’t want you there, and so it doesn’t care whether you understand it or not.”
Tarsier Studios’ Little Nightmares is currently available on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. The game was developed by the same team that helped develop Little Big Planet and Tearaway Unfolded.
