During the Microsoft press conference, Life is Strange: Before the Storm was announced as a prequel to the original title. There will be no time travelling this time around, as a younger Chloe must be quick on her feet. However, those that miss Max can play an exclusive episode with her, if they get the Deluxe Edition.
According to Square Enix, this will be a small bonus for fans and isn’t essential for the prequel story. Still, anyone who got attached to the characters of the first game will likely pre-order this, thanks to the reveal. It will be interesting to see if it leads into the sequel, though the company don’t plan on canonizing either ending.
Fandom To The Max
Spoiler warning for those unaware of the Life is Strange endings, but both of them don’t end well. At the end, players are forced to either save Max or the town they live in, which engrossed and divided players. However one feels about it, the story did move everyone and the bonus episode in Life is Strange: Before the Storm will feel essential.
Apparently, the bonus episode won’t be affecting the ending of the main game, it’s just a way to spend more time with Max. She was written well and gained tons of fans in the process, so expect plenty of pre-orders for the game’s deluxe edition. This might be the last time we see her, since the sequel might not have any of these characters.
The bonus episode called “Farewell” takes place before the events of Before the Storm. It will become available after all three episodes of Before the Storm, granted players purchase the Deluxe edition.
Prequels Are Strange
Unlike the original game, Life is Strange: Before the Storm will be worked on by Deck Nine Games. DontNod are still working on their upcoming RPG Vampyr, but have confirmed a second season of Life is Strange. Here is hoping that the new writers impress everyone, since the original game has plenty of hardcore fans.
Funnily enough, the original voice actress of Chloe will return as a writer instead of a voice actress. Ashly Burch, the original Chloe, will be one of the game’s three writers, so that should be interesting to see. Only time will tell if the story is just as good without the time travelling, which added some gravitas to the first game.
Life is Strange: Before the Storm Episode 1 will be out later this year, on August 31 for PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC. The Fans that are interested can pick up the original Life is Strange right now on all major consoles and gaming PCs.
